Do you like your dentist? Did you have a good experience with the realtor that sold you your house? Call them up and ask if they pay a referral fee for new clients. Ask them if they belong to a networking club and if you could come visit it to see if it was for you. Go and learn from that experience. Then write down on a separate page in your notebook a list of professions who always need new clients. By those professions, write the names of the people you know who practice that profession. You have a great start at creating a passive income stream, because you don't do much except recommend people you already like to people you also already like. It is a win/win/win situation! Bonus!
EJ runs a publishing company and she pays $50 for every author who signs with her. Usually it is only her other authors who do this for her, but she is willing to pay this for anyone who successfully sends her an author she ultimately represents.

Writer's Summit Tip #6:
Write a sub-title for your book. Test it for usefulness. Does it tell people what to expect when they open the book? Can you tell if it is a novel or a biography, historical, current or futuristic? Can they tell the general topic of the book instantly? They need to be able to. You have about 2 seconds with a potential customer, when they take your book off the shelf and browse it. If they don't like it, they'll put it back within 2 seconds. Don't believe me? Go to your favorite bookstore and watch the customers.
See the case study about Promise of Whale Song if you want to understand where this tip came from.
The procession was several blocks long. Most of the angels flew a protective circle around the cars. I rode near Glory. She was quiet. She was calm. She was a comfort to me. I put my arm around her and she sighed peacefully. I whispered in her ear. 'The Lord promised me that these angels would look after you. They've done a great job so far. I have no reason to doubt they'll do a great job from now on. I love you. I wish I could ease the pain of your missing me.'
'What were her choices, Martin?' Mother joined us.
'What do you mean?' I asked.
'You have to realize that her pain is her choice. The only way for her to avoid this pain right now, would be for her to have loved you with less than her full heart. But she did love you with her full heart - you know she did. If people choose to love in life, when they lose those whom they love, they will have pain. The only other choice is to avoid love, but that is to choose to live in pain. Let her mourn. It's her tribute to you and to your love. She wants to do it. She needs to do it. Soon, her peace will overcome her pain.' Mother's voice was so soothing for both me and Glory.

Writer's Summit Tip #24:
NEVER ASK WHY...
your book was rejected for publication. The publisher won't tell you and it will drive you crazy if you try and second guess the reason.
Just know that a publisher will only accept a book for publication if it is EXACTLY the right fit for them at EXACTLY the right time. Everything else gets rejected.
Don't take it personally, it has nothing to do with you. It has to do with their bottom line.
One story, from an editor who felt bad about rejecting manuscripts without explaining goes like this:
"I was a young editor and I asked if I could write a note on the rejection slip so the author wouldn't feel bad about the reason I had to reject their manuscript. My boss said not to, but I did anyway. What I got back surprised me. Instead of making the authors feel better, sometimes I enraged them and they wrote back to me to tell me I was stupid not to see the merit of their work. Othertimes, they wrote back pleading with me to change my mind. In all cases, I opened up a conversation that was going to go nowhere. It always ended badly. I stopped writing to authors after the first few times. I wish authors could understand, it never was about them or the merits of their work, it only had to do with our current agenda.
If you desert the trust
in times of adversity,
your faith is small!

Passive Income is not time dependent. Passive Income works for you, not the other way around. Passive Income will require some activity and attention, but the time involved will be minimal compared to the returns.
You get to determine how much time and when you spend it.
True Passive Income is something that you can walk away from and it still pays you. Passive income has the ability to multiply, without limit, the use of your time, effort and energy.

Writer's Summit Tip #37:
Learn publishing from a publisher, not from some guy who heard about it from a friend or a published author who only knows his/her own experience. Learn the ins and outs of anything from a professional currently engaged in the practice of it. You will get the most up-to-date, revelant information from someone who is in the field.
Likewise, learn editing from an editor - not a critic. Learn illustrating from an illustrator. Learn the inside information about graphic arts from a graphic artist - and so on...

In this economy, repair products are selling much better than replacement products. This is especially true for car and truck windshields. The top 10 windshield repair products are listed if you click through to this web page. Dent repair, and paint scratch repair are also great ways to save money over going into the shop. Believe it or not, these products are available on Amazon.com. A plethora of Windshield Wiper's are also ready and available to choose from on Amazon.com and headlamps too. Save money on all your car consumables with the pages at spockboxes.com.

Writer's Summit Tip #5:
Handle writer's block creatively...
Write something else or imagine one of your characters in an unusual situation (not in your book). Put them in a predicament where their true colors have to come out and imagine what they do. Put them in a life threatening situation or have an old love show up or a new enemy show up and see what you learn about them. Don't worry about writing it, just imagine it and get to know your character better. It will give you a fresh perspective.
This tip was given to my by Othniel J. Seiden, author of The Remnant and The Cartographer and 30 other books. He's known as Colorado's most prolific author. He knows how to get past writer's block! Thanks Otti!

Did you know...
There are three major milestones in the life of any book...
The first, of course, is to be written...
The second is to be published...
The third is to be read!!!
The true 'First Time Author's Curse'
is that most first time authors,
never plan past milestone number #2.

Writer's Summit Tip #20:
Sell books!
Don't give them away!!!
(especially to family)"
They'll understand...
Don't be guilted into giving your books away just because someone knows you. The only exception to this rule is if you have listed them by name in the dedication or acknowledgements.
This simple rule helps you avoid hurt feelings, lost profits and stress inside a family.
Go ahead, blame your publisher, if someone doesn't 'get it'!!!
If you start offering a 'family discount,' you'll be amazed at certain people's definition of family. Your first print run needs to be sold so that you can make the sales numbers you need to make to get your second printing. If you give all your books away (or more than you can afford to, you'll find yourself feeling resentful about the whole process. Avoid this by making a hard and fast rule: If their name isn't printed on the inside of your book, they pay the price printed on the outside of your book.
